VIDEO PLAYER HELP PAGE

INTRODUCTION
DVD video files, with high quality pictures at full screen capacity, are not suitable for downloading over the internet. To download video, the screen size and the picture quality need to be reduced and a fast internet connection is required.

Our Video Player files are progressivly downloaded to view immediately in the Video Player. This means that whilst the video is being watched, the file continues to load in the background and the viewer is unaware of this when using a fast internet connection, like broadband. The speed of the download depends upon the type of internet connection and the quality of the video depends upon the size of the video file - the bigger the file, the better the quality of picture and sound, but the longer it takes to load.

As an alternative, we have added high resolution video Zip files to the CelClub Downloads page. These files can be saved and then the unzipped movie files can be watched in a Flash Player, which is an integrated part of the Windows environment.

BROADBAND CONNECTION
If you have a broadband connection to the internet, you should be able to view the video clips quickly and at "medium resolution" (ie. with a reasonable quality picture).

Sometimes, depending upon the broadband connection and the computer, the video may halt from time to time as the file is progressively downloaded for the first time. After the clip has been completely loaded and played, however, you will be able to replay the clip without any difficulty, and since the file will have been saved to your internet "cache" (a part of the computer memory which stores your viewed webpages), you will be able to easily watch the clip again and again.

DIAL-UP CONNECTION
Dial-up connections are generally much slower and there can be long delays when downloading very large files (loading a medium resolution 6-minute video clip on a 56K dial-up connection could take up to 100 minutes or more). Video files are very big and the only way of making them smaller is to reduce the size and the quality of the picture and sound. The resulting "low resolution" files are not as pleasant to watch, but they can be downloaded in a much more reasonable timescale.

We have added some low resolution files and using a dial-up connection, downloads of a 6-minute video clip could take about 30 minutes (times will vary according to the internet connection and the computer). After the first downloading (with video halting and restarting), replays can be watched without interruption (and with the internet disconnected) though the video quality is reduced from that received by a broadband connection. Nevertheless, it is still possible to benefit and learn about new techniques etc. from a low resolution video.

FEEDBACK
We hope you find the Video Player useful and if you have any comments or suggestions about using video clips on the website, please Contact us so that we can make changes and improvements!
